Notes:  When urgent care tried removing fluid from his chest, they found their presumptive diagnosis was wrong-- now they say he has "restrictive heart failure" and pulmonary torsion resulting in complete loss of blood flow to lung tissue. Not sure what he has left, prognosis is grim. Want to keep him alive until Joanna (owner) gets back from Madagascar on Saturday. Will try AP and cannabidiol when he gets home later today.

Notes:  Mouserou survived until his owner returned home last night and is holding fairly steady. His breathing is below 30 bpm with no obvious effort. Gums are still pale pink with cap refill of <1 second. Caretaker was worried about opioid pain meds making him constipated, so d/c yesterday. We subbed cannabidiol, and the cat seems comfortable enough. Wondering whether diagnosis by Cornell could be wrong, since they did not expect him to live 48 hours, and had strongly recommended euthanasia at the hospital. If he remains stable tomorrow, I may seek a second opinion from another internist. While delivery of his seizure medications has been iffy, he shows no signs of seizures.

Notes:  Mous is still hanging in there. Finicky, but usually eats raw chicken liver a few times a day, lately taking some sardines and canned salmon too. He's still fairly weak and quiet but does just find for an ancient feller. Checked renal values yesterday, no change from most recent bloodwork before he crashed-- cardiologist was concerned whether his kidneys could handle the furosemide, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. My partner heard fairly normal lung sounds on left, and not much on right. We are thinking that the diagnosis of pulmonary torsion was probably in error because he has not become septic in the two weeks since that diagnosis. So, in a palliative care holding pattern. In past day or two, he has groomed more, so that's an improvement. They are only giving phenobarbital, because pregabalin pill too big. He may not be getting full dose-- he has had a few small seizures, triggered by grooming, which is typical for him. But he always gets worse in the winter, and always has break through seizures in the winter.

Notes:  Mouserou's appetite has improved, as has his mobility. Joanna took him back to Cornell Cardiology today for a recheck: rads and echo. They found that the affected lung lobe had shriveled and scarred down, and that his echocardiogram was normal. NORMAL! They reviewed the previous one, and still felt that their diagnosis at that time was correct. They are gobsmacked. She mentioned the herbal remedies etc that they have been giving, and they just nod their heads, obviously considering it a case of spontaneous recovery (nothing to do with his treatment). They reduced his furosemide to SID, and will see how he does. I set up Joanna to use a laser (class 2) on various cardiac acupoints last weekend.
