Disease Notes

  • Certainty: confirmed
  • Comments: Congenital CNS disease. MRI on 10/4/13 showed Dx'd w/ caudal occipital malformation syndrome, w/ mild hydrocephalus, and areas of syringohydromyelia in spinal chord, and moderate R ventral extradural spinal nerve compression.

    Symptoms of poor hearing, rubbing at face for since puppy. Suddenly stopped jumping, running. Appetite fine. Took to vet in Rogue River. Did x-rays, rads. Put on tramadol and gabba penton. Seemed to help at first. After MRI Dx, but on pred 5mg sid, Prilosec and Cerenia, Tramadol. Still on gabbapentin

    Not being herself since started drugs in Oct. Lethargic, not playful. On R/D for wt. loss. Hungry all the time and drinking a lot of water

    Exam: Sweet dog. HR 80. No pain on palp of cervical spine. 23 lbs. T-pink, lavender; P- thin, wiry

    A) COMS w/ hydrocephalus, syringohydromyelia, spinal nerve compression. TCM: Kidney Jing Def; Shao Yang Pattern?

    P) Tx: GV20: GB20R: LI4 L; BL 20,23; KI3 L; ST36 , GB41 R 25 min

    Rx: 1) Xiao chai hu tang #30 g; 1/2 tsp bid

    2)
    Hypericum 5
    Skullcap 6
    Wild Lettuce 5
    Tumeric Glycerite 8
    Siberian Ginseng 6

    3) Pet Omega

    *1 df tid

    * Stop Tramadol, and decrease pred to 2.5mb SID

    * Repeat acp Tx 1 wk

    * Recc frozen raw meat diet
  • Final Status: much better as of day 260 of treatment

Notes:   Doing very well. Seems happy and energetic. "More present" No symptoms of pain at all. Loves raw meat diet. Stools good.

Exam: Looks great. T-pink, slightly lavender; P- thin, wiry, stronger R

A) Good resp to Tx, diet. TCM: Blood Def; Stag

P) Tx: Acp: GV20; GB20; BL17, 22,23; LI4, LIV3 R, GB41 L 20 min

Rx: Xiao chai hu tang 30g
Si wu tang 20g

* 1/2 tsp bid

* Decrease pred to 2.5 mg eod; Stop tincture for now


* Repeat acp Tx 2 wks

Day 23

Notes:  Re-ck / Acp Tx: C just got back from Hawaii 2 days ago, and she seems a little low energy. No pred in last 2 days. Appetite still good.

Exam: Looks good. N on neuro exam. T-dark pink; P- thin, weak

A) Low energy 2 days off pred, stress from being home w/ pet sitter 2 wks.

P) Tx: GV ; GB20, BL17,20,23; ST36, KI3 L

Rx: 1) Refill Chinese herbs

2) Siberian Ginseng 8ml
Licorice 6
Oats (Milky oat seeds) 8
Tulsi 8

Day 29

Notes:  Re-ck / Acp Tx: Doing very well. Appetite very good. No pred for last week. Still on Prilosec 1/2 tab sid, Cerenia 1 pill EOD. stools good, and N water consumption.

Exam: Looks great. No cervical pain on palp. Some sens BL18. T-dark pink, lavender: P- stronger and not as weak; Slightly wiry

A) Doing very well as she weans of meds.

Notes:  Very lethargic. Doesn't want to go on walks now. Appetite, stools normal. Acts like "old dog".

Exam: Low energy. No pain on palp of cervical spine. Appears to have gained wt. T-pink, lavender, dry; P- thin, weak

Rx: Dang gui shao yao san 50g : 1/2 tsp bid
