Treatment and Outcome

Problem Notes
  • Prone To Soft Tissue Injury: Notes: 1. Roxy eats 100% raw diet. 5 different balanced proteins (beef, turkey, chicken, salmon and pork) She also gets whole frozen sardines, chicken feet and quail eggs
    2. No issues with raw at all.
    3. No issues with supplements. Daily she gets Tri Acta Joint , pumpkin, and kefir. She seems to have a seasonal allergy as it shows up in late spring and summer only. I give her a supplement made by my food supplier but just during the season. Gabapentin made her sleepy and lethargic. NSAID may have helped.
    4. She does eat some grass
    5. No vomitting
    6. No coughing, the odd sneeze but nothing constant
    7. She usually has 2 small bowel movements a day. Yellow and solid
    8. Nothing unusual about her urine. She pees regularly but has had issues with leakage found when she wakes up (not aware of it) since she was 2 years old. She also has random small leaks during the day after laying down and getting up
She also has thick white discharge that has been green and yellow at times (summer) from her vulva randomly (she is spayed but when put on DES--> vulva swelled up and did not tolerate--> demonstrated heat like symptoms)
    9. During the winter she drinks very little. In the warm weather she drinks more
    10. She has energy and stamina to burn.
    11. She is restless right now because her exercise is cut back due to recent front limb severe lameness. Especially when laying down and then gets back up.. better with movement.
    12. She is comfortable in the house but is always looking to do something. She does get some anxiety when I leave
    13. She sleeps well through the night, in our bed!
    14. She will notice loud noises but is not bothered by them.
    15. She likes to be warm
    16. Her current limping started 2 weeks ago. I believe after a wild game of chase with a small fast dog who ducks and dives much better than her. She is so slow to heal after her lameness appears.
    17. This will be her third bout of lameness. I believe they are all from over exercising. Front left twice and back right once.
    18. I think the Tri Acta helped last summer so I kept her on it.
    19. Food doesn’t affect the lameness but she is not as hungry when she is in pain. Normally she eats 1 lb. of food in a 2 minutes. When she is in pain it takes much longer and sometimes walks away
    20. Her lameness appears to be very serious when she gets up after laying down. It doesn’t matter what side she is laying on. After a few minutes walking around it’s better but still noticeable. However when she’s out for a leash walk most people would not think she was lame.
    21. No lumps or bumps
    22. Roxy is definitely (c) sensitive, affectionate and playful. She loves everything and everyone.
Tongue: sticky stringy saliva, enlarged and lavender tongue white film
    Deep toned and arrhythmic pulse
    BLOODWORK: ALT --> low
URINE--> lipid droplets present and SG 1.036 (OK)

My questions: she is on Raw (with some vegetables) yet she is demonstrating signs of what appears to be dampness--> which I now wonder about Shao Yang disharmony as i'm seeing so many of these lately!
Her tongue is lavender (deficiency sign or poor peripheral circulation or both??)and she suffers from anxiety and in the exam room was lovely to work with but when we xray'd her shoulder and owner was not present she was very difficult to deal with (panic mode, barking, very anxious)
Due to the chronic nature of soft tissue injury, how severe it appears given the lameness demonstrated and given the fact it's better with movement--> i'm thinking Xiao Huo Luo Dan (Minor invigorate the collaterals) Her pulse is toned but arrhythmic , the tongue is lavender and stringy saliva present. However, this is also a young dog and this is normally used in older patients?
She also suffers from season itch late spring all throughout the summer
May-Sept (issues with anal glands, vulvar discharge, urinary leakage)
The lipids in her urine also make me wonder about improper digestion and maybe she requires a fermentable CHO source and probiotic to help if Shao Yang disharmony?
    I'm stuck!
    thank you
    Laura
