Signalment

  • Species: cat

Disease Notes

  • Certainty: confirmed
  • Final Status: slightly worse as of day 48 of treatment

Treatment and Outcome

Problem Notes
  • Inappetence: Owner reports is eating is "so-so", when he was formerly voracious all the time. She is concerned about weight loss.
  • RF Distal Weakness: Owner reports his RF foot has always been "not right". He is markedly toeing out and the carpus seems to be weak and hyperextending.
  • RH Proprioceptive Deficit: On 12/29/14 was knuckling over on 1:6 steps.
  • Vomiting: Occasional episodes that look like GI upset-- i.e. no hairballs emerging

Treatments
Day 0

Notes:  Started limping in July, RH caudal mass, firm, close to TI, not movable. Cornell aspirate, suggested Vaccine related FS. Was lame and painful when seen by Cornell oncology. Sent home on 2.5 mg pred SID and butenorphone BID. Fairly bright, limping on RH severely, slightly thin, voracious appetite (need to check T4). Is cool seeking, prefers drinking from muddy stream. PU/PD with steroid tx. Tends to act stiff at end of Butenorphone dose, improves an hour after new dose. Oncology protocol includes: diet change (off kibble and chicken, use bone broth for meds), Beta-Thym, SP Immune Support, auto-sanguine Thymus injections SQ weekly, medical ozone, Maitake-DMG, Canna-Pet

Day 6

Notes:  Eating better, does not have to coax with new foods, but needs food rotation. Loves raw salmon. Limping was improved-- seemed more functional than painful. Was quite agile running around office

Owner stopped giving buprenorphine, and saw no difference in pain level, so discontinued.

Diet is largely raw

Day 13

Notes:  Owner discontinued Butenorphone with no change. Rocky is using RH leg-- was standing on hind legs to look out window. Still limps, but does not seem unwilling to use it. Doing well.

Diet is largely raw

Day 20

Notes:  Rocky is doing well. Owner thinks that he is jumping more often, using his hind leg with the tumor. It was suggested to cut prednisolone from 2.5 mg SID to 2.5 mg EOD. Owner reported back on 12/17 that he seemed to be more lame without the daily pred, so went back to original dose.

Rocky is not willing to eat food with supplements mixed in, so owner has been syringing him.

Diet is largely raw

Day 34

Notes:  Rocky's tumor seems to be increasing in size-- last week it filled my hand in a spherical shape, now it is oblong, extending cranially. His limping is worse, and sometimes he knuckles over. His appetite is just "so-so", perhaps from pain. We discussed changing up some of his meds to address the pain. The owner did not want to restart Butanorphone because she thinks he becomes constipated. He is occasionally vomiting, which was not usual for him-- maybe once last week, once this week. It turned out she was only giving the Cannapet SID, so I told her to try BID and get back to me in two days. Dr. Dayon is going to re-repertorize for him.

Day 48

Notes:  Rocky continues about the same, although the tumor has definitely grown since we started treating. He still gets around, goes outdoors etc. No indications that his pain is worse. He turned his nose up at his food a few times, until they realized he had managed to jump up on a high counter to get another cat's dry food-- which is a pretty good for a cat with a pear sized tumor on his leg.
