Treatment and Outcome

Treatments
Day 0

Notes:  Visit was to check infection in mouth, potentially tooth related.
A mass in his mouth was observed. Had some pressure necrosis from being pressed against teeth. Source is skin of hard palate, 1cmx2cmx1.5cm pink, fleshy mass with wide base. Owner reports occasional bleeding. They are feeding him soft food.
DDx: Epulis or fibrosarcoma.
Plan: surgical removal or biopsy with sedation

Diet is largely canned or kibble

Day 92

Notes:  Biopsy performed under butorphanol and acepromazine sedation. Mass was reported as malignant melanoma. Prognosis is guarded. Local recurrence is likely, though metastasis less so as mitotic figures were few, suggesting a low grade.

Diet is largely canned or kibble

Day 112

Notes:  Biopsy was performed under Butorphanol and Acepromazine. Mass was 1cmx3cmx4cm, pink and pigmented, on left side of hard palate.
Biopsy results: Malignant melanoma. Histopathology report: Guarded prognosis for this melanoma, local recurrence is expected. Metastasis is possible, although the low mitotic index suggests a comparatively low grade. Lesion does extend to the margins of the submitted wedge specimen.

Diet is largely canned or kibble

Day 191

Notes:  Not office visit, but medications given - Curcumin 02.04.16, and Xiao Chai Hu Jia Yu Jin-K'an - Open the Liver Canals given 02.08.16

Diet is largely canned or kibble

Day 197

Notes:  Mass in mouth looks much better, non-infected, and possibly smaller

Diet is largely canned or kibble

Day 233

Notes:  Mass in mouth greatly reduced in size (mass used to be visible when he opened his mouth) - approximately 1x1x0.5cm in appearance.

Diet is largely canned or kibble

Day 314

Notes: None submitted

Day 498
