Notes:  Kiki had been vomiting frequently until Jan 27. The diet was changed from rabbit primal to duck primal and there has been no vomiting since. The owner was away for the first week of february and Kiki hid from the house sitter the entire time.

Yi guan jian was started feb 9th at less than 1/16 tsp bid. It was difficult to find something to hide it in, but she has accepted a tsp of canned duck limited ingredient food as a carrier.

She is sleepier than usual and her appetite is down. She will eat all or most of her food if taken to the bowl, but doesn't eat as readily as before starting the herb. The tongue is pink to slightly pale pink.

It is really too soon to tell but there may be some regrowth of hair on the medial aspect of the hindlimb - she had licked them clean during the owner's absence. She still appears to spend a lot of time overgrowing her abdomen.

There is no visible vomiting. I don't know if this is due to the diet change or the herb.

Should we continue with the same herb or lower the dose or add wei ling tan in with the yi guan jian or switch to wei ling tang?

Notes:  It turns out the petsitter put the other cats herbal formula (ba wei di huan wan) into Kiki's vial and that is what she was getting from the start of treatment until Feb 18th when the mistake was discovered. She was then switched to ji guan jian 1/16th tsp BID. She is not lethargic now, in fact she may be a little more feisty. One hairball was found, and it probably was hers. She has been slowly gaining weight since the first herb was started and that continues. She is licking herself a little more intensely now. She doesn't eat all of her food at once but she usually comes back and finishes it later.

Notes:  Kiki is eating well and holding her weight. She rarely vomits. She is grooming her abdomen and inner thighs aggressively and scratching her ears and neck. She is irritable. She has always been feisty but she gets very agitate is she is not touched in exactly the right way or if someone moves while she is on their lap.

Notes:  Kiki had stabilized very well taking yi guan jian daily for the past year. The vomiting had decreased to about once a month. Her appetite and weight and stool are good. Over the past 2 months the vomiting has gradually increased and now is about 3 times a week. There is often a hairball in the vomit, along with liquid and some food. It does not occur at any specific time of day.

She has slowly become deaf over the past year. She is more frail - she sleeps a lot, but still will play. She is more fearful. This may partly due to the increased dominance of the other cat in the house, but her world has become smaller and she mostly stays in her heated cat bed by my desk. (she has always enjoyed the heated cat bed, that is not new) She is affectionate when I am at the desk, but doesn't join us in the rest of the house as much.

It is difficult to feel a pulse - she won't be still when being examined- but I think it is thin and a little weak. Her tongue is pink, not pale, with a normal coat.

She still has an area of alopecia on the ventral abdomen from licking herself, but it is much improved from a few years ago.

Notes:  After our consult in august of 2020 I stopped the YGJ and I was going to start XCHT but she improved a great deal after stopping the herbs. It was as if a blanket was lifted off of her. I think I let her stay on the herbs too long. She became more active, ate well, and had infrequent vomiting, although she still had a little "urging" (mild regurgitation?) after eating. Her coat became full and thick. She did not groom excessively.

She did well until oct of 2021 when she became acutely ill with vomiting, lethargy, anorexia, tremors and thirst. Labs showed ongoing stage 2 CKD, normal B12 folate, Urine SG 10.40. US suggested pancreatitis. She was eating duck primal and duck answers raw food.

We changed her diet to primal pork raw, stopped the answers food and she was on a gradually decreasing dose of cerenia for 6 weeks. The cerenia really helped her. Then she was on a decreasing dose of pepcid for a few months to see if it helped the "urping" discomfort - it helped a little. But all in all, since december, she ate well, gained weight and was bright and happy.

During May she vomited 4 times and on may 29 she vomited a huge amount of clear liquid. She then was ill for about 10 days - isolating herself, decreased appetite, and lost weight.(almost a pound). She is still not eating very well. Her labs are all normal except for mild CKD, urine SG is 10.41. She started to eat again when we changed her from pork to duck again (food aversion?)

She seems frail, and she has lost muscle tone along her spine, and has weak hind legs. She seeks heat. She still a feisty little sortie, just less effective at it.
