Question Details
VIRAL PAPILLOMA
by allpetsvet1 - June 10, 2009
Hi Steve, I have a dog with a solitary viral papilloma in the webbing btwn left hind 2nd and 3rd digits. I was going to start M.U.S.H. and was wondering if hoxsey or san ren tang or another herbal might help getting it to regress. It is inflamed and painful. the dog had a TPLO on the same leg 1 month ago. Thanks, Ken Cholden DVM

Hi Ken,

My sense is that a peripheral viral lesion means we need to heighten peripheral perfusion in some way, to improve immune exposure. Hoxsey and San Ren Tang would have the opposite effects, unfortunately. I would wonder about Xian Fang Huo Ming Yin, given the inflammation and pain. Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang and Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang are options but they seem too tonifying for the excessive symptoms you're reporting. I'd go with XFHMY. Also, topical Thuja occidentalis oil or tincture might really help out, since it tends to kill off the viruses that cause warts. It contains the same compound (thujone) that makes Thyme such a powerful antimicrobial.

Good luck!

Steve
