Question Details
Pleural Effusion
by Michelle1 - June 17, 2009
Hi Steve,
Saw a cat yesterday that has been previously diagnosed with severe Spleen Qi Def by Linda farris- 21# female cat on homecooked, veggies adn salmon/chicken only, now has pleural effusion. Cat is too scared/fractious to do a chest tap without anesthesia, and dyspneic, did not ausculte a HM, ALT is 110, TG= 273, glu= 172
Have started her on Rutin 250mg BID, what else can I do for her? She is semi-feral, too and hte owner cannot pill but can mix things in her food, can try a liquid form as well.
Thanks!
Michelle

The frequent sanguinous discoloration of the effusion; plus the reputation of rutin as beneficial; plus the association of hyperlipidemia with Blood Stasis makes me think of Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang for this cat. K'an makes a liquid version, or the granules may work.

Good luck,

Steve
