This time a feline q. Chinganu is a 18 month old neutered male tonkinese who has had inflammatory bowel disease with bacterial overgrowth since weaning. He had diarrhoea and herpes and was half the body weight of siblings when homed from breeder. His treatment has been diet change to commercial hydrosylated protein products with pred and metronidazole during bouts of disease. Today(winter)
he has loose pale mustard stools, 3 daily, not smelly. In summer he had 3 bouts of fresh mucoid blood on his custardy stool. He vomits rarely. With dietary indiscretion, has bloody diarrhoea and pain. He is a cuddly lap cat and loves to play with his ball when tummy is quiet.He is sleeping away from the fire, he drinks 500 mls plus and is polyuric. His tongue is pale lavender and pulse wiry. Blood tests unremarkable, apart from mild elevation ALT. His mba at 3 months showed cholesterol of 5 mmol/l( 2.2-5.5)Faecal culture normal when young, no parasites but bacterial overgrowth on faceal smear noted recently. The herpes presents as sneezing and serous naso ocular d/c which clears in 24 - 48 hours. My queory is is this diagnosis of spleen qi deficiency compounded by triple burner obstruction
he is sensitive on palpation gb 25 and bl 22. I havent recognised this in cats until now,and am unsure whether to try to unblock TH obstruction with xiao chai hu tang first before adressing spleen qi deficiency.
