Question Details
Pulse Diagnosis
by ericahawker - June 22, 2009
I know we discussed at the last module that pulse diagnosis is made at the level where the pulse feels strongest. Most of my patients feel strongest when I push down into the deeper level. I can only think of a few that collapse when I push down and have a stronger pulse superficially. Is this how most of your patients are or am I doing this wrong? Intuitively, itt seems like most pulses would feel strongest the harder you push down.

Yes, that's true. The majority of pulses you feel will be on the deep side. Exceptions are animals that need 'astringing' (e.g. using the formulas we discuss in the upcoming module) or that have severe epithelial inflammation. Animals that benefit from CHJLGMLT may have a superficial pulse, as may some Yang rising animals.

Once you've had a few of these cases, then you'll be able to appreciate the difference.
