Chai Hu Jia Long Gu Mu Li Tang Formulations

I am treating a 2 yr Maine Coon cat for seizures and overt, ferocious aggression. He has (had) diarrhea, and also pruritic skin nodules on the ears and head. Tongue is pretty much always red, moist, with a slightly purple center (observed from across the exam room, tyopically, or through the carrier door!) Has been thin, with a picky appetite when on dry food. Jia Wei Xiao Yao San and diet change to canned food resolved the diarrhea since starting treatment, and the seizures temporarily. His aggression is better, as I now can touch him in an exam, whereas before he would fling himself at the door of the carrier to get me.
At home, he has been amiable until the last two weeks when he attacked the owner (went after the owner and had to be shut in another room) and had another really severe seizure. Skin nodules are back. Needless to say, medicating this cat has to be as hands off as possible.
He would not take Long Dan Xie Gan Tang. San Reng Tang caused a recurrence of the diarrhea. Currently Four Marvels formula (Kan, 3 drops BID) and Jia Wei Xiao Yao San are the meds.
I wnat to change JWXYS to Chai Hu Long Gu Mu Li Tang, a version with Ren Shen. Kan herbals Traditional uses Ji lin bai ren shen-is that a better alternative than Dan Shen? I have trouble finding the Kan essential formula equivalent on the web site- is there one of yours you could suggest? I need a pill or possibly liquid, please.

Hi Jodi,

I think you mean Dang Shen (Codonopsis) here, rather than Dan Shen (Salvia). At any rate, yes, White Ginseng would be more effective than Dang Shen. Ren Shen is considered the most potent and therapeutically active form of Ginseng, however.
