Question Details
Otitis Externa
by JULIE SCHELL - July 23, 2009
Hello! I have been treating a Cocker Spaniel for chronic otitis with Western techniques, which are not working. All her lab results (except her bacterial otitis) are normal and allergy tests/ thyroid tests normal. I havn't seen the pet for 7 months and she arrived today. Total heat and damp signs. Owner declined acupuncture but allowed me to prescribe Si Miao San and I told owner to just put a small amount of Gold Bond powder in her ears once per day for 7 days to help dry the gross, yellow smelly discharge. Her ear canals are so thick I couldn't fit an otoscope down to view. Wow! Any other herbal suggestions for this dog? Thank you,
Julie

I think you're off to a good start. An anti-dampening diet will help, too - low carb, higher protein, low fat. You may want to follow up again once things have had a chance to move along in response to the herbs.
