Dalmetian With Spondylosis

Hi Steve,

I have more...

11 years old MC Dalmetian with spondylosis and Wei Syndrome.

Tongue-sl. pale pink,
Pulse-wiry, right weaker than left

No change of pulse with BL-40 today, but slightly improves with BL-23 tonification.

Past 2 acupuncture did not help much, and modified Xue Fu Zhu Yu did not help either.

Has been on Previcox for the past 3 years for shoulder problem, which is now in remission. Hind limb weakness with occasional scuffling for the past 10 months. Hx of back problem 2 years ago that was treated medically. Rads show major spondylosis of T12/L1, L1/L2, LS joints, mild lesions through Thracic vertibrae.
Movement is worse after rest, but he is weak afer exercise. Cold weather affects his movement, but not Damp. Very lumpy dog, prefers cool.

I see Stasis here, but stuck due to mixed signs. Would Yi Yi Ren be helpful here?

Hi again,

Yes, there is Stasis, but also possibly deficiency (Kidney points, worse from exercise, age, pallor, affected by cold, hind limbs involved). In that case, then Yi Yi Ren Tang is a possibility, especially where there is also Damp (i.e. lumps). Sometimes plain old Kidney tonics will work, too, such as Ba Wei Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Eight, Shen Qi Wan).

Thanks, Steve for all of your help.

I had a busy day after coming back from Japan and found out that half of the case was not doing so great (conditions changed or my approach was not right on).

I also saw several cases at ER; I wanted to treat with TCM, but their problems were so far advance that they needed more of Western diagnosis first (clustered seizure, fever of unknown origin, etc). At least I get to see their tongues and feel pulses that are different from most of my cases.

Yes, I had a great time in Japan, but jet lag was not fun. Only if I knew how to get rid of it faster...
