Seasonal Sneezing/coughing In A Dog
by Rose Mary - September 14, 2009
Hello Steve,
I have a 9 1/2 year old Chihuahua who has seasonal reocurring upper respiratory signs - much like a mild kennel cough which happens in the spring and fall. His owner owns a boarding kennel and the dog lives on-site. The dog had been vaccinated for kennel cough in the past and gets a treatment of antibiotics which clears it up each time, however the owner wondered if there might be something that she could give to support the dog's immune system for something like this. In your text, I read about Yu Ping Feng San to strengthen Wei Qi. Would this or something else be of benefit?

Thanks,
Rose Mary

Hi again,

Yu Ping Feng San is an excellent choice to start, if the symptoms are low grade and the discharge is more serous.

For allergic cases, Nettles tincture can be helpful.

If the discharge is purulent and symptoms quite pronounced, then other options include San Ren Tang and/or a formula called Cang Er San.

Hope that helps,

Steve
