Question Details
Pony With Changing Stiffness
by alexandra - January 24, 2017
Pony was ridden a lot, when owner didn´t have as much time as usual, it got laminitis, was treated with leeches and herbs (hot hoof from jing tang) and improved a lot. ACTH was much too high so it was put on meds. The hoofs seemed to be fine, but she started to be extremly stiff. Muscle enzymes were high. So she is on painkillers and on Du huo ji sheng. She changes from stiff to fine and back in hours. The Du huo doesn´t seem to help her much. Her tongue is bluish and dry. Could Xiao chai hu help her better??
Thanks

Hi Alexandra

For shifting pain at this time of year with a purple dry tongue, a better choice might be Move Freely. It's basically Shen Tong Zhu Yu Tang, a combination Blood mover and Wind expeller

I would also wonder, though, with that past history, about Si Miao San with added Mu Gua (20g per 100g). It's a muscle antispasmodic, yet will prevent laminitis if used this spring, and will address the elevated ACTH

If, on the other hand, you see active GB channel points and the pulse improves when they're needled, then Xiao Chai Hu Tang is the way to go

Hope that helps!

Steve
