I am stumped. This 8yo mc Bernese mtn dog presents with paraparesis, hind CP deficits, and fecal incontinence. The tongue is lavender and the pulse is weak (I am inexperienced at t/p assessment.). I am thinking "hot above and cold below" from obstruction of the Dai Mai. I consider Xiao Huo Luo Dan. However, there is history of (entero?)colitis and urinary incontinence with meds that may distort the picture:
The chronic, presumptive IBD was treated with pred. It stopped the diarrhea, but noticably triggered the hind-end weakness per the owner. The pred was discontinued and the dog's diarrhea is now controlled with long-term antibiotics (Tylan) and probiotics.
The ur. incontinence was treated with phenylpropanolamine, which led to an UMN-like bladder. The Proin was discontinued, but the bladder still to this day needs to be expressed by the owner!
Is this a case of damp heat accumulation in the lower jiao with confounding findings due to chronic, cooling antibiotics? Or is it something totally different?
