Hemangiosarcoma (splenic) In A Dog

Hi there . . . would be be appropriate to use your herbal protocol for hemangiosarcoma on a post splenectomy case in which the hemangiosarcoma was completely removed? i.e. even the liver was biopsied at time of splenectomy and was clean
Any benefits for these cases?

I've been following your guidelines of:
45% CHJLGMLT
30% San Qi
25% DGS
+ Yun Zhi
+ Yunna Bai Yao
+ Bilberry extract

My question also has some concern with the given Vit A D injectible dose that you gave as advised in a previous case on this forum - listed on that case as the following:
"ORALLY 500,000 IU vit A and associated D3 twice weekly unitl it is apparent the dog is in remission or well controlled, then give once weekly"
Is that dose a typo? Do you have to worry about Vit A toxicity because that dose is extremely high, unless I don't understand something when I look up the given ranges in the drug handbook for acceptable Vit A doses. Just worried if this was correct?

Hi Lisa,

We do dose aggressively with vitamin A, when the tumor is not well controlled. In your case, with no apparent neoplasia left in the dog's body, weekly should be more than enough.

I also don't use it by injecting it. I give it orally, but use the injectable formats, because they are well absorbed orally yet are available in high dosages. High dosages were what were cited in research articles as promoting cell differentiation. The vast majority dogs have a far higher tolerance for vitamin A than what is quoted in standard veterinary texts.

So, bottom line: once a week should be ample, and well-tolerated, but if you want to push it to two weeks, given that there is no identifiable tumor, that should be okay. Note, though, that risk of toxicity is far lower than what you are worried about, with the dosages in most texts suiting the tolerances of the tiny portion of dogs at the far left hand edge of the bell curve, yet the doses proving most valuable for tumor treatment being markedly higher
