by jschell - May 10, 2018    View Case Report
She has intermittent temporary Shar Pei Fevers, inflammatory bowel disease, atopy, chronic recurrent otitis (yeast and/or bacteria). Recently developed Renal Disease (Stage3 IRIS), SDMA is 24 and she has proteinuria UrineProteinCrea ratio is 2.03 She is on Ba Wei Di Huang Wan, probiotics, chronic Tylan, Apoquel, Cytopoint. If I take her off Apoquel and Cytopoint she is very itchy and gets ear infections. Has had bacteria urinary infections in the past and leaks urine and is also on Propalin. I started her on Fortekor and owner gives Rimadyl if she has a bad Shar Pei Fever. Given weekly vitamin b12 injections. Owner feeds Prescription diet d/d Duck as they cannot home cook for her . What can I do to help stave off her Amyloidosis herb-wise? Keep her on BWDHW, but what else can I add? Thank you!

Hi Julie,

You're basically looking for a herb that interferes with the inflammatory mediators that promote serum amyloid secretion by the liver. The one plant I've found that does that is the Chinese herb Coptis. It can be added as a single herb. It's quite bitter, but if perhaps it can be disguised. Worst comes to worst, they can put it in gel caps - gel cap makers are available at many herb and supplement stores.

I'd give 1/8 to 1/4 tsp twice daily. It's a strong anti-inflammatory, too, so it may stabilize some of those other symptoms, too, including the itch, cystitis and colitis

Thank you very much Steve! That is a great idea! I'll see if Natural Path can get some in for us! Cool!
