Low Dose Naltrexone

Does anyone have any experience with using Low Dose Naltrexone? I have a client with fibromyalgia who says it has relieved her pain about 90%. She is asking about using it in her 13 year old mix breed (Lhasa/terrier) for back pain and hind end weakness. Did initial exam yesterday. Hx back surgery for ruptured disc ~7 years ago (getting records to see what disc). Shen is good. Tongue is pink and limp, pulse is superficial and empty. Sore along entire neck/back, more reactive at CT junction and along lumbar spine. CP deficits in rear and slight asynchronous gait. Scheduled first acupuncture in two weeks.

Hi Kelly,

I haven't used that drug, but based on the age, history, and pulse description, I'd be reaching for Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang (aka Supple Spine), unless the dog is Damp

You can confirm the formula will work if you see an improvement in the pulse when you sedate BL 40 and tonify BL 23

As for naltrexone it looks to me from the little I’ve read on line and on VIN like the low dose treatment (3-5 mg Sid) works as an immune modulator, used on the human side for HIV/AIDS and immune mediated disease. VIN says appears safe at least and might be beneficial for mild pain and some medical conditions though not adequately studied. :)
