Sarcoma Back Left In A Cat

My own 14 YO MN DSH has a firm 3 cm mass on his back left leg. A punch biopsy confirmed an intermediated sarcoma. There are no Mets in his chest, his popliteal LN is not impacted and otherwise he seems to be doing well. He has some arthritis in his back that I’ve been doing acupuncture on him weekly before a 4 months apart. Every report I can find recommends removing his leg because of the location we will likely not get great margins. Just wondering what I can do to support him before surgery and after surgery and if there’s any good cases to recommend not removing his leg.
He’s an extremely firey guy- terrible patient. He let’s 5 people in the world touch him- but he’s the best cat to us 5. His tongue is lavender, pulse on the left is stronger than the right, he is always sensitive around BL 23. His rads also show a bit of spondylosis.
Thanks for your help I have the hardest time making medical decision for my own pets.

Hi there,

Generally we recommend using Modified Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang (Natural Path) on a case like this. Generally for sarcomas, the results are good even if there are dirty margins. Just getting rid of most of the tumor will make it easier for the herbs to then tackle the remnants. The formula may also smooth out his temper a bit, provide some renal support, and support better circulation to his back to help regain a bit of flexibility over time

I don't know that there are any cases on the site to report, but my own experience with sarcomas suggests this approach will buy you at least a year, if not full remission.

Hi Steve and everyone else,

I brought my cat in to have one of my colleagues to amputate his leg today. Unfortunately the mass now has developed some tentacles, it appears to be impacting a few local lymph nodes and there's a questionable area in his chest. We did not go through with the surgery because I was worried debulking it would cause further activation. Would you still recommend the same herb? Are there any specific acupoints you would recommend beside LIV 3 (when he lets me!)

I would, at least as a start. There are formulas you can pair it with. The first task, though, is to see if growth can be stopped with the formula. Let us know what happens. Regardless whether it helps or not, the effects you observe will help us decide what to do next
