One of the employee's cats (a 6 yr SF DSH) had small bowel diarrhea that responded to high fiber diet (DM canned, I think) for ~ 2 yrs. Now her diarrhea has relapsed amd I'm having diffuculty fixing her.
Stools are cow pie, no blood, mucous or straining, normal freq. She had a bullae osteotomy for an ear polyp at age 1, but otherwise no issues until the diarrhea.
When I first saw her ~ 1.5 yrs ago, her stools were fine, PE unremarkable (but of course cat's pulses and tongues still all look like clones to me unless they're almost dead). So we just started probiotics, glandulars for gut and liver, enzymes.
She hummed along for about a year and then this spring her soft stools returned. Over time, her owner had allowed her to have a fair amt of hypoallergenic canned food, w/ no repercussions. At the time of the diarrhea return, she'd had no diet chnages for ~4 months. Back to 100% DM was no help.
So we started with WLT,then LJZT, now recently Wu Wei Zi- all have had no effect on her stools and no side effects, either. 95% of doses are going down (std dose BID).
No recent T or P, as she gets fairly worked up in the car, so I've been lazy about making her come in. (Slapping my own hand...).
Perhaps we just need to try another spleen formula?
