Reducing Alcohol In Tinctures?
by CorinneC - April 10, 2019
Any tips on how to remove some of the alcohol from TCM tinctures to improve taste? Especially for cats. I think I saw a similar post at one time but can't find it now. Is it a double boiler set up? and then how do you dose from there?

If I remove the alcohol, I usually keep the dose the same, as even though it's more concentrated in some ways the preparation will have lost strength in others.

To remove the alcohol, you can stand the bottle partially submerged in a pan of hot water with cap off for several minutes, swirling it from time to time.

Alternatively you can pour the tincture out onto the bottom of a warm saucepan, wait until the alcohol smell has weakened, then pour it back into the jar

Lastly some people just warm the dose on a hot spoon before giving it. Or if given in food, mix the tincture with beef broth warmed in a skillet then poured on the food

I'm sure there are lots if other ways, but you get the idea
