Curved Tongue? Saggy Hanging Tongue?

Hi there!

I have now seen two doggy tongues that had a definite curve in them with no evidence of trauma. Both dogs had anxiety and Liver Blood deficiency. Wondering if this is something you see? And have thoughts on?

Also, after the one case of a long flabby purple tongue that we saw two weeks ago, I saw a second one today. Both German Shepherds. Tongue hangs down to the floor, saggy, lifeless, and definitely a deep lavender-purple. Any thoughts on this? Both also have Liver Blood Deficiency with Qi stagnation.

Technically, the more a tongue thrusts out of the mouth, the stronger the patient's Liver energy (and therefore, the more potentially excess or stagnant its Blood or Qi, creating a lavender tongue). Now flabbiness is associated with Qi deficiency, which in more severe forms can also create stasis. So I guess they would be your two differentials. Naturally, hanging out the mouth can create an artificial stasis in the tongue, too, so the most important time to look at the tongue is right after that red carpet is rolled out!

Thanks Steve! Have you ever seen the curved tongues? I have one with Liver Blood deficiency that is self-correcting with Blood tonification. Its super cool!

That's very interesting! Maybe it's relaxing some sort of spasticity in the tongue muscles. Anyway, thanks for the tip!
