This dog is a 7 yr old Golden w/ a FSA of the upper lip; biopsied in June. Her owners declined chemo/radiation and sought holistic care 9/24/19. Sadie had a history of summer hots spots, otitis, and her owners felt they only came on when she swam. There is no sign of discomfort since the onset of this mass; she plays, runs, eats normally.
On exam:
- Temperament extra sweet
- pudgy
- L upper lip has a 6X 4 cm firm, painless swelling. Incisors on that side are slightly spread apart, does not appear on palate.
- mild bilateral conjunctiva; erythema (still ragweed season here)
- pulse; middle- deeper, toned
- Tongue; sl. pale, sl. lavendar
She was on Fresh Pet (cooked raw commercial) and kibble . We changed to all raw, rotating proteins, added cruciferous veggies. I also had them start CAS Options. VIt A & D, inositol, fish oils lower dose. Herb Rx was Si Miao san (Kan - 3 tabs TID)and dang gui.
Recheck 4 weeks; mass has grown slightly (perhaps ~ the same rate as it had been). Pulse sl. slippery now, but the rest of her PE was unchanged.
I'm wishing I'd started a 2nd, more anti- neoplastic herb first visit; so now am wondering about adding Hoxsey? I don't appreciate lots of heat w/ her; more somewhat damp and blood deficient IMO. Or XCHT? I thought its was odd that her pulse seemed more slippery this visit, as it has been fairly dry and colder weather lately, and she'd been on the SMS/DG for 3.5 weeks or so. Could the dang gui be to dampening? Thought about DGSYS also.
Thoughts??
Thnx,
Cathy
