Suggestion For A Bearded Dragon Case

Hi

I have just diagnosed a chromatophoroma (melanocytic neoplasm) in a bearded dragon. The tumour is infiltrating the gingiva between the lip and teeth at the rostral aspect of the mandible. According to my research, this is a locally aggressive and metastatic neoplasia. My plan is to go in and try to remove as much tissue as possible (without removing bone). At best, this might be palliative.

Would there be something we could use to compliment surgery? The owner does not want to pursue radiation.

Hi Leticia

We've used Qing Ying Tang to stabilize and shrink oral melanomas. It's the best thing I've found. If the tumor isn't too rapidly growing, I'd even suggest using it a few weeks before surgery to try to debilitate the tumor, and make excision more complete. If the tumor is rapidly growing, then I guess you just have to jump in there. Start the herbs immediately, though. There should be no concerns with the formula affecting intra-operative bleeding
