Wobbler's In A Dog
by moledvm - January 8, 2021    View Case Report
I have been doing acupuncture on Isaih on and off for last 3 years. Had neck surgery 2 years ago. This summer repeat mri from neurologist inoperable scar tissue at C4. He is typical yang deficient doberman. He is on bu yang wan wu and cervical formula. I acupuncture him every 1-2 weeks. Winter here so not doing well. I remember at last AHVMA conference in Nashville, I looked at magnetic loops that I could buy or owner could buy. I have never used one and cannot find the info in my file. I am sure some of you know what I'm talking about. I am afraid not going to get him through winter. Thoughts. Jamie

I think you might be thinking about the Assisi Loop? You can look on their website at: https://assisianimalhealth.com and then hit the "Store" tab to see where you can order from depending on your location. I am also considering these for a Wobblers case so I hope we can both help our dogs:)

Hi there,

I think you're thinking of Assisi Loops. I don't think there is much downside to giving them a try and some veterinarians swear by them.

For neck issues especially aggravated in winter, consider adding in Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang, especially if the pulse seems quite toned, or quite deep. Keep in mind that BYHWT has significant Astragalus content, which is a Wei Qi tonic and astringes, potentially 'trapping the thief inside the house'. If you have a Wind Cold invasion (which DHJST addresses), it could potentially worsen under the influence of Astragalus. Maybe drop the dose of BYHWT a little, add in a robust dose of DHJST, and see if that helps. It still fits your overall impression of Yang deficiency, so it should not be aggravating.

Hope that helps!

Steve
