Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy And Cataracts In A Boston Terrier
by gordonsvillevet - February 4, 2021
What is a good treatment for cataracts in a boston terrier. Due to age and possible FECD I am looking for some recommendations for eye treatment in a 10 year old Boston Terrier. Ophthalmologist wants to hold off on cataract surgery due to complications that occur with this breed and recovery/complications. Want a oral medication/supplement/herbal to help with eye health and cataract reduction.

Hi there,

The loss of endothelial cells in FECD is believed to be possibly due to oxidative stress. Rehmannia is one plant that has been shown to have a strong antioxidant effect on the eye.

Formulas that might be applicable here include Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang, Ming Mu Di Huang Wan, or Yi Guan Jian. All should be widely available. The former and the latter are available from A Time to Heal Herbs on the US east coast. If no inflammation is present, then I'd probably suggest the Yi Guan Jian

Hopefully that helps you out! Please advise what happens
