Question Details
Will Eat Anything And Separation Anxiety
by kderfuss - December 2, 2021
Good evening Steve,
Harley is a 1 year old, m/c, mixed breed dog. His energy and appetite are through the roof, just had a foreign body surgery, and has separation anxiety. He will settle down eventually...
Pulse: wiry, thin
Tongue: long, pink, cracks and white coating

Obviously not SP Qi deficient (I think), he is not mean or confrontational, but is easily on alert. Maybe HT Qi deficient? I read your entire herbal guide trying to choose a formula - maybe Xiao Yao San?
As always, thank you.

Hi Karin,

I'm wondering about Xiao Chai Hu Tang, actually. We've found it helpful for hypervigilant dogs. They often have huge appetites. Pulse is definitely wiry, but often not very thin. It gets thin if there is also Blood and Yin deficiency, which we often treat with Yi Guan Jian to try to cool the Stomach, helping to dampen the raging appetite

If the above is the right call, the pulse will moderate with acupressure to key GB points, like GB 34

Otherwise, rather than XYS, I'd wonder about YGJ alone given the strong appetite

Hope that helps!

Hi Steve,
Always helpful, thank you. Some days I just think is the pulse big or small for the dog - Harley's pulse definitely felt small for a medium size dog. Sounds like I will use GB 34 as my guide. I think cooling his stomach would be a good thing.
Have a good night.
Karin
