Question Details
Pulse Change
by dbrown - October 11, 2009
Hi all,
I have a question on a 6 yr Rhodesian Ridgeback I have been treating for sudden behavior change (aggression) and intolerance to heat. Typically she has had a purple tongue and slippery pulses. She has had some improvement with a combo of LDXGT and BXBZTMGT. Her last recheck her tongue was still purple but her pulse had changed and lost the slippery quality, now it is soft. My question is when checking her active points I created a slippery pulse with ST36. What the heck does this mean? Pulse was improved with LI11 (both tonify and sedate). Please help with this clarification! Thank you!

Were you tonifying ST 36 when the pulse became slippery? If so, you introduced Yang energy, and ran the risk of heating the dog up again. You could also have been tonifying Qi and Blood. Essentially, in real terms, you increased her peripheral circulation.

It's harder to understand how sedating ST 36 could have made the pulse slippery. So I presume it was tonification.

LI 11 is much less tonifying than ST 36. So the difference between the two points may be because ST 36 was adding Qi or Blood, while LI 11 was simply manipulating warmth.

Hope that helps you a little. Sometimes, crazy things happen!

Steve
