Squamous Cell Carc\'-changing Herbs

Dear Steve,
Am seeing dog that we've been treating for partislly removed SCC of lip. Responding well to Hoxsey, SMS, Vit.A/D, Diet change and Fish Oils. Initially, signs were very phlegmy tongue,also dark colored. I must have been disstracted as I failed to record the Pulse. Ear tips and paws cool. Now tongue is very DRY and pink and lavender.Ears are warm and feet still cool. Pulse is now wide,full , strong with some lift--dog is a greyhound ...almost always have tension in pulse and...this dog like the other greyhounds I've seen haas a history of severe dental infections. Only other significant Hx is crysalluria in the past, and loose stool on abx. I went with the SMS due to the loose stool noted, and an anxious owner that I wished not to trigger fear in if the dog got loose stool on the Hoxsey. Wondering what you would suggest on herb mgmt. now that tongue has changed.

The hot head (tumor, periodontal disease) in the absence of heat in the paws suggests you almost have too much Yang in the head - the dog, too. Kidding.

Anyway, Long Dan Xie Gan Tang is an option. I've teamed it up successfully with SMS in squamous cell carcinoma cases to buy almost a year of remission. Unlike Hoxsey and SMS, it has a particular affinity for the head, so would add to the protocol. SMS drains the head, but only through its affinity for the Stomach channel. It also clears Heat and drains Damp from the Bladder, so would be of benefit in preventing cystitis and crystalluria.

That's my first thought, anyway.

Hi Steve,
( Yuck,yuck,yuck--ok so now the word's out --my wife is not the only one who knows I'm too Yang headed.If only I could move that Yang down into the genital region. Hmmm.)So my concerns about the Tongue being so dry now are not to be worried about?Or a little Yin/Blood element in LDXGT will address that? Sounds like you are saying not to be concerned about that but just go with the LDXGT based on the imbalance you mentioned.

Sorry, Todd, I didn't realize that was a question. Yes, LDXGT has a hydrating aspect to take care of dryness resulting from severe Heat. In the Natural Path version, we amplify that just a little, to get a better effect than the rest of the versions on the market.
