Chronic Vomiting In A Cat
Misty is a 6yo FS DSH who came to me in in May 2022 for voracious appetite (obsessed with food, always pestering Owners), regurgitation, and overgrooming her belly. Her pulses were decent and her tongue a normal pink & moist. She had been fed dry food and Friskies canned to start but O had found that better quality of canned reduced regurg. I assumed an gastritis/IBD issue and ST and Liver Yin deficiency, put her on Yi Guan Jian and rec's a raw food diet. She slowly improved over the summer but then returned to my old clinic that I had left because started V+ again with small hard stools - they ran several panels to rule out EPI, pancreatitis, bacterial overload, and then put her on Prednisolone when results all WNL, stopped raw (she hadn't been eating it well), started canned. Her V+ stopped but she became even more food obsessed/aggressive, and depressed (very unusual for her). Another holistic Dr that was there temporarily, saw her and found a pink tongue (bright pink according to O), deficient thready pulses, diagnosed Rebellious Stomach Qi due to Stomach Yin Deficiency & Liver Qi Stagnation, put her on JT Conc. Dang Gui Cong Rong and JT Stomach Happy. Misty refused to take the Stomach Happy formula (very strong odour), still V+ (but O has tapered Pred down quite a bit due to change in mental state. SHe also rec'd further testing - GIT panel (cobalamin, folate, PLI), fecal testing for parasites with serial deworming, and abdominal ultrasound.
The owners found me and I saw Misty again today. She is very sweet, hisses, but allows a full exam, including a quick cysto to do USG (1.035 - were told she had an elevated Creat last blood test, SDMA and BUN WNL). Her tongue is now more lavender and moist with bubbles, normal size, pink edges. Pulses are still thready ad deficient to me. Her wt is stable, sl uncomfortable on cranial abd palpation. I assume the tongue is more moist and sl swollen from Pred? I do not know the two formulas prescribed above because I only use Nat Path, but the Cong formula appears to moisten intestines and the Stomach Happy Nourishes Yin, moves Qi and Resolves Stagnation, so appears quite fitting overall. I have restarted Yi Guan Jian and ordering Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan if you agree? I've rec'd cooling canned/cooked proteins like fish. I think the tongue is masking a true ST Heat and Yin deficiency but I need your wisdom!!!
