Question Details
Seizures After Hard Exercise
by sophiek - March 27, 2023
Hi Steve,
I just finished listening to your lecture on urinary incontinence on CIVT. When you were talking about urine leakage after hard exercise being a Jue Yin Excess, Source Qi is depleted from lack of integration if Yin and Yang, so they are more prone to urine leakage post exercise in when asleep.
Would this pattern also hold true for epileptic seizures? I have a case where the dog seizures after it's been babysat for the weekend, where it races around like crazy, is super exhausted when she gets home and then seizures from sleep.
Would Jie Yin Excess formulas be a possibility in a case like this (Wu Wei Wan +/- Qing Yin Tang) if the rest of the pattern fits?

Thanks,
Sophie

Hi Sophie,

Those ideas are worth a try. Have a feel of the pulse, though. If it feels 'short', such that you can't feel it very distally on the medial thigh, then the Jue Yin excess may be taking the form of Spleen Qi sinking (or Qi collapse). That can produce seizure tendencies, too. You can confirm it's a short pulse by massaging or needling SP 4 (or LV 3). If the pulse improves in strength, is less wiry and extends further down the leg, then it's much more likely to respond to a treatment for Spleen Qi sinking, namely Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang. Start with just a low dose in the morning, to ensure there are no aggravations, in case we've got it wrong. If none, then move to BID and eventually up to a full dose

If the pulse doesn't feel short, then WMW + QYT is a consideration
