Started with bloody, mucousy stool
I started bland diet (home cooked 98% lean turkey, rice) and slippery elm.
Pet is not on any prevention, not vaccinated.
HWT negative
Started slippery elm.
2 days later, same. Rec labwork to rule out pancreatitis, pet is not eating well.
Added probiotic and cerenia
2 days later pet is in the ER.
CPLI normal, rads and cbc chem are normal.
fecal negative
Owner declines panacur and sucralfate, metronidazole.
7 days later, I rec vit b 12 therapy, GI panel, FMT, cortisol level
Declined all. owner thinks it is pets nerves.
Pet is shaking/staring at mom entire visit. He is water with wood within.
Tongue is now pale, swollen, pulses are thready and he has lost 4 lbs.
2 days later she returns, accepts b 12 and fluid therapy.
Gi panel accepted, shows low folate, cortisol normal
Start metronidazole, pet improves.
Pet off metro, symptoms return. We are not 4 weeks in.
Another ER visit, pet diagnosed with benign prostatic cyst and low potassium
I RX Happy earth, panacur, sucralfate, slippery elm, vit b complex supplementation
Owner treats for 2 days then stops, she is afraid she is poisoning him.
Sent fecal PCR to uga to rule out infectious.
She is coming in tomorrow am with him to talk.
I feel she has no trust in me, from a tcvm or conventional perspective. I am really struggling with this case and just looking for support/advice/how do I help this pet? sigh
