He would have been neutered at ~1 yr. He has slowly gained weight and went from a 4/9 BCS to a 6/9 in that last 2 years. He has also become more lethargic and grumpy. He used to coast through the woods and beaches at full speed, but doesn't seem as adventurous now. We just adopted another MX rescue, Billie, 6mth old FS Chihuahua X Min Pinscher who is so lovely and patient with him, just wants to play. It has taken 2 mth for him to stop growling and snapping at her.
His tongue seems to be red a lot, mostly normal size with rounded smooth edges, very moist. His pulses are mostly toned but he is really touchy about his back legs and holds them tense because of his RH FHO.
I really worry about so many of my patients becoming a chronic metabolic syndrome of lethargy and wt gain after spay/neuter. Have you seen a particular TCM treatment help these dogs, or can you at least explain TCM-wise what is happening here? I know they are essentially Jing deficient and I assume then Yin deficient??
Gary seems like a Damp dog but also Yin deficient? The red tongue confuses me as he doesn't seem Damp Heat, more Yin deficient, but being that he is my own dog and I am based and unsure.
Appreciate you as always!
