My assistant has a 4 month old M kitty with chronic constipation issues. When they first found him he had a roundworm, coccidia and giardia infection that we successfully treated.
He is a very chill kitty - earth personality - appears more neutral in temperature but if anything will seek heat/sunshine. We have tried low residue diet, whole food diet (smalls), lactulose QID, fluids. He has had several enemas with success but has trouble defecating well on his own. Unproductive straining is typical. distended belly.
His pulses are bilaterally thin, weak (but can palpate them) with the right being slightly weaker than the left. Tongue is pale, moist (damp vs qi deficient?)
He got an enema on Monday but has not defecated since and has large firm fecal balls in his descending colon. Has an ok appetite through all of this but can be picky and not your typical ravenous kitten. We did acupuncture this morning BL21, BL25, GV1, ST36, LI10, ST25, CV4 for 10 minutes, SQ fluids and cerenia (maropitant). I think slight positive pulse response but hard to tell...
Thinking Qi deficiency? Spleen?
Was planning to try bu zhong yi qi tang with some cascara? If so, how much cascara to add?
Thanks for your time and expertise.
