Question Details
Lipomas
by Riverviewvet - July 25, 2026
Hello all! Wondering if anyone has had success with using Bao He Wan for canine lipomas? Or maybe Hawthorn alone? I have recently had some great results from using BHW combined with Er Chen Tang on some of my metabolic donkeys with huge fat pads. The Er Chen alone didn’t do much but when I added BHW, the fat pads significantly reduced. Wondering if similar approach would work in dogs? Thx, Gretchen

Gretchen, I'd love it if you gave that a try. There aren't a lot of sure fire treatments for canine lipomas, apart from feeding real food that is not too high in starches and fats. I would have said besides Dampness and Phlegm, the other aspect of the problem might be Blood Stasis (and whatever is contributing to it). Note that in Western medicine, Hawthorne has a bit of a Blood moving effect while the rest of what you're proposing addresses Phlegm. Hence, it might be a super good thing to try and an important discovery if you can pull it off. Please let us know if you give it a go!
