Question Details
Yunnan Baiyao
by steros - October 28, 2009
Hi Steve,

I was wondering how long you can use Yannan Baiyao for. I have a dog with a bleeding splenic tumor that is responding well to treatment with Yannan Baiyao and Si Miao San.

I read you should only use Yunnan Baiyao for 2 weeks but in this dog's case, I was wondering if I could continue it long term.

Thanks
Steve

Steve,

I know they say that but I have had many patients with HSA and nasal carcinoma that I have kept on Yunnan Pai Yao long term without breaks for over a year and have yet to see any adverse effects. Being in oncology, most of my patients don't have other options to control and prevent bleeding and it has truly been a life saver. I even had one patient who was receiving the "emergency red pill" every day because it was the only thing controling his hemoabdomen from multiple HSA liver mets and that dog lived for another couple of months.

So that is my anecdotal report. I would feel very comfortable continuing the Yunnan Pai Yao long term in this patient.
