Yin Def/Damp Cat

Hi all,
13 yr old cat with hx chronic vomiting of food. Has resolved for the most part with XCHT. Still will vomit when client leaves town, but is much less now. More green/fluid if vomiting recently.

Currently is pruritic and can have crusts around neck and ears. Ears have dark, dry debris. She is often quite pruritic with no lesions. Head tremor past year and yeowling at night which responded well to ZBDHW.

Tongue lavendar to purplish
Pulse thin, deep L and full, wiry on R.
Active pts frequently BL 20, 22.

SRT good for vomiting, but itch no better and may be worse.

Is itch enough sign of Heat to warrant ZBDHW, or is there a better formula?

With discrepancy between pulses, can I say Blood/Yin Def L and Damp/Stasis R (spleen)?

Good homeopathic remedy for vomiting when client leaves/stress?

When I see stasis (purple tongue) in a very itchy cat that has previously responded to Yin tonics (ZBDHW) and formulas that harmonize the Shao Yang (Triple Burner and GB channels), I think of Qing Ying Tang. It moves, moistens, cools, dries Damp, and clears Heat. I've had other Damp Heat cats develop severe ear lesions that have responded well to it. It won't do much for the vomiting, perhaps. I have paired it with Xiao Yao San for vomiting itchy cats. Or you could just carry on with the San Ren Tang or XCHT. The SRT may be aggravating because it is drying, further suggesting there is a Yin deficiency aspect to the skin problem.

Hi Steve,
Just an update with this cat - we tried Qing Ying Tang and she immediately started vomiting. Went back to SRT in the AM and ZBDHW in PM. Vomiting completely resolved again, but she is still very pruritic with no lesions, anxious and yeowls 4-6 am. If client moves at all during sleep, she wakes and meows until she is petted. She has hard stools, and slight head tremors.

Tongue last visit pink and slightly wet.
Pulse deep, thin, wiry.
Pts BL22S BL23T

We tried arsenicum 30C which didn't seem to be help, and TMGTY at night - again no change.

Not sure what I am missing here...perhaps try the xiao yao san now?

Hi Marnee,

It sounds like if you've got no lesions and the tongue is now normal that something is working. To avoid upsetting the apple cart, and address the connection of itch with agitation, you could try giving the cat Nettles tincture. It cools Heart Fire and relieves itch, but is mild.

Lastly, when the cat is so dependent or reassured by company, this is an Earth trait. So Spleen and Damp Heat approaches maybe best. One thing you can do homeopathically to follow up on this is try Sulphur 30C. I've seen it work well for some restless itchy affectionate cats. Try once or twice daily, provided it doesn't seem to heighten the symptoms at all (Sulphur is one of those remedies that can, although I haven't seen that happen in a long while).
