Question Details
Yunnan Bai Yao And HSA

Hi guys

I have been reading the forum regarding YBY and HSA. Does one still give YBY even after the spleen has been removed? Are you using it for anticancer effect?

Happy November!

Have you been losing weight? (Just wanted to be consistent).

Regarding YBY, I don't think its anti-cancer effects are very strong. Nevertheless, the Pubmed database cites about 30 bench research articles (for Panax notoginseng, its chief constituent) identifying multiple anti-cancer effects against various tumor types. So there is an effect there, and piggy-backed on top of other anti-cancer herbs, it may help out in reducing recurrence.

Ditto what Steve said. Also, I put most of my post-op splenectomy HSA cases on it long term because so many of them develop hemoabdomen from liver mets and it is the only preventative thing that we have. Anecdotally it seems to help. I use it along with whatever other formulas are appropriate from a TCM perspective but also this is one formula I use in ALL my HSA cases, even if they are not doing alternative medicine.
