I saw a 6 yr old cat for a lameness of unknown origin last week. The cat was completely non-weight bearing. The leg was limp and not painful with palpation. There was a ball of firmness on the medial proximal femur about two inches distal to the hip joint. Otherwise, the cat seemed fine and friendly. Good personality. The owner said that he would get a little better then get non- weight bearing again.
I told the owner to get a radiograph so I could get a better idea of what was happening. Fracture of the femur with the fracture ends overlapping each other. Owner is going to leave it alone. I recommended herbal therapy and acupuncture. The latter will be difficult because the owner has no money and won't come to see me, however would do herbs.
Based on past posts, if I am concerned about nerve damage, I could use homeopathic hypericum as well as symphytum for fracture pain. Herbal formulas which sound appropriate are XCHT, XHLD, and XYT.
What would you suggest? There was also mention of Qin Jiao for pain?
