Question Details
Cat Sinusitis
by marneemadsen - November 19, 2009
Hi Steve,
I have a stubborn sinusitis case. 18 yr DSH I started seeing 1 yr ago. She was obese, sedentary and completely immobile at that time. She has come a long way with acp, herbs and diet change over the year, but has the constant congestion, sneezing leading to occasional bloody nose from the chronic irritation.

In August, she had a sinus flush, rads and c/s which grew pseudomonas. She was placed on abx which I am not sure helped. She felt great after the flush, but it seems like it was more from the fluids, flush and buprenorphine. Disharge recurred rapidly and has not been as yellow, but is tenacious. Before the flush, she had responded to Xin Yi San and she was on BWDHW.

We have tried lots of things depending on her congestion and nature of discharge, but I feel like not getting anywhere. YPFS and Cang Er San worked well for a short period.

She always has active GB points and severe OA lumbar spine and hips.

Tongue is lavendar/purple underside.

Pulse is hard to find, rapid, thin.

She loves heat, eating pretty well despite congestion. She feels puffy over Yin Tang. She has been mildly azotemic for years and pretty stable. HCT low normal. Stools can be small and thin. We recently tried azithromycin every 3 days in addition to the herbs with no improvement.

Even though the discharge looks hot and excess, it seems this is due to deficiency.

We have tried SRT, SMS, NAC, nebulizing essential oils (helps some). She has been on XCHT+QJ on and off. WLT has helped her overall condition.

I was considering trying XFZYT?? Any other thoughts?

Hi Marnee,

We have a similar case we're trying XFZYT on as well, so naturally I like your idea. There are some clues suggesting this approach might be helpful. Xin Yi San, BWDHW and YPFS all increase circulation to the sinus region, which resulted in improvements in your patient. So another hydrating and circulation invigorating formula seems the way to go. The tongue suggests clear stasis and the pulse a need to cool and hydrate. Lastly, we'd like to support the kidneys and increase the hematocrit, which XFZYT would be expected do. It's moving, tonifying and cooling influence target the upper body (burner) where the problems are, so it seems perfect.

Hopefully it works well for you.

Steve
