Diabetic With Previous Immune Issues

Good morning Steve,
I am treating a 9 year old m/c samoyed who recently became diabetic after approx. 1 year of low dose dexamethasone for what we dx'd through process of elimination to be some sort of immune based hind limb weakenss. (may have been wei syndrome) The dog also has a history of UTI's and anal gland issues. His pulses are weaker on the right, somehwat tight overall. tongue has purple center with a white coating.
I was thinking of Si Miao San for damp heat? I would appreciate your advice.

Hi Karin,

A better fit for the pulse and tongue would be San Ren Tang, which seems especially helpful where there is a purplish tongue and a deep tight pulse. It's content of Yi Yi Ren helps counteract poor insulin sensitivity, and it of course is a good formula for cystitis.

Si Miao San is a good choice were it not for the pulse and tongue. Adding Dang Gui would make it fit the pulse and tongue better, but doesn't necessarily improve its efficacy against diabetes, as far as I'm aware.

Lastly, Rehmannia Eight also matches that pulse and tongue, and has significant anti-diabetic effects through its content of Cinnamon and Cornus. Given the hind end weakness, I like that formula as a place to start, but a response to acupuncture at Kidney points can help ensure the formula is appropriate.
