One of the tech's cats is a 6 yr old DSH SF with chronic soft stools. They started after a bullae osteotomy was done for middle ear polyps, and antibiottics rx'd.
At that time, the rDVM did repeat fecals, stool culture, hypoallergenic food trial (which we've since repeated.) All neg.
Also panacur and pred w/ no change.
They then put her on canned DM, which kept her stools pretty much normal for ~ 2 yrs. (hi protein, hi fat, hi fiber and low carb).
6-09 her soft stools returned. She had been on probiotic, SP Enteric support, DM. Stools were (and are) cow pie consistency, no blood or mucous and BID frequency. She was pickier for her AM meal and occ. vomited clear liquid, so I called her sp. qi def and put her on the following herbs, in order:
-WLT
-LJZT
-Wu Wei Zi
-SRT
No change form the first 3; SRT and Metronidazole both helped ~ 10-20%.
11/13 exam;
Stools very soft w/ some lumpy form (yum...) dark brown. Now sh'e lost .60 lbs and is a bit underweight for her frame. Appetite is sl. up. P: fast
T: ~normal
CBC WNL
Profile ^ cholesterol 282 (71-218)
T3 and T4 mid-range normal.
What have I missed here? I don't appreciate much for damp heat symptoms in her, but she did respond at least a bit to SRT and Flagyl. I know you mentioned at our last class that cat's heat signs can be very subtle; would SMS be worth a try?
The owner is finally convinced to try raw or raw cooked w/ this cat also- owner is vegan , so it has been a tough sell..
Thanks!!
