Where Do Formulas Take The Blood?
by MKinoshita - December 14, 2009
Steve,
Is there something in a formula which will tell us if the formula will take blood to the periphery or take it centrally (eg, SRT vs SMS)? In other words, can we tell by analyzing the ingredients of a formula, where it will take the blood?
Also, are the ingredients in your formulas listed on the bottle from highest percent to lowest?

Hi Michelle,

Some good questions. First, the ingredients: they're listed from highest to lowest, generally, but where quantities of ingredients are the same, they are listed alphabetically. This was something the FDA guided us on. They had a big role in our label design.

As for which directions do herbs take blood, there are some basic reliable guidelines: formulas which are basically sweet or aromatic in nature move blood peripherally (in very real terms); formulas which are strongly bitter, bland, or salty tend to move blood inwards away from the periphery and from epithelial surfaces.

Have a great day, Michelle.
