A 5yr, FS lab mix presented and diagnosed with IMHA on 5/2 at ER. Started on Prednisone (1mg/#/day), Imuran, pepcid AC, sucralfate, and doxycycline. Initially she was febrile (105), anemia of 23% with numerous spherocytes, only mild increase in total bilirubin.
The treatment has been continued at my clinic and her PCV has held steady at 19% for 24 hours after gradually dropping since diagnosis.
Vaccinations were administered end of March.
I remember when discussing an oncology case, you recommended choosing either western or chinese treatment. How about in this case?
Her tongue is lavender, pulse thin and rapid. I was considering Qing Ying Tang.
If only western treatment is pursued for now, I would like to address the dog's suspected, underlying blood deficiency down the road.
