Anyone have success managing polycythemia vera in cats?

Clinical signs with high PCV = seizure, lethargy.
Tongue thin and red; pulse thin and rapid. Dx Yin def heat. History of recurrent UTIs (crystaluria, inappropriate urination). Always has had a picky appetite. Very relaxed, social and friendly cat at clinic. Rest of hx unremarkable.

Thanks,

Erin

Hi Erin,

I think of Blood movers (without Blood tonics) for this. Maybe something like Ge Xia Zhu Yu Tang, which moves and cools without tonifying. It might help to distribute the blood supply as broadly as possible. I'd worry that Dampness herbs might be too 'drying', aggravating viscosity, and that any form of tonic might do the same. Bitter could help here, since it promotes Blood deficiency, so another approach is to use a purely cooling formula like Hoxsey, or LDXGT. The latter has some tonics, but is drying, so maybe they'd cancel each other out to result in a net cooling influence. Hoxsey is more purely moving and cooling and might be the best bet.

Those are my thoughts, anyway.
