Tea Pills
by rcvvmd - January 25, 2010
Are tea pills not recommended for our small animal patients? I have heard and read a few items that say they are not absorbed and pass right through. Which is a shame, because some major companies carry them and I have a lot on the shelf.

A client told me this about capsules, as well... she read it in Tilford and Wulff's herbal therapy for pets book.

Thanks for your comments!

Hi Robin,

I think they're okay to try out for poorly 'compliant' animals. It's true there is some issue with their breakdown and absorption in small animals that makes them comparatively significantly less effective. That's the general impression many practitioners have, anyway. It could be that humans, with their much longer GI, can do a better job breaking them down adequately.

All the best,

Steve
