Hi Nicolle,
It should be fine in theory to use Saw Palmetto from Whole Foods, but the cat may have some strong objections to the flavour of the alcohol-based tincture. That's why we use glycerine - it's easy to dose the cats when trying to abort an obstruction. I don't know that you'd be able to get enough alcohol tincture down a cat to achieve that.
A couple of ways you can try would be to:
- put the liquid in a gel cap and pill the cat
- gently steam off the alcohol in a hot saucepan. You'll then need to refrigerate the tincture after that, since it will have no preservatives in it
When you get tired of that, I'd try the glycerine version.
