Question Details
FELV And FIV
by cprather - February 3, 2010
Hi Steve,
I have just examined a 7 yr old spayed female DSH--such a sweet kitty! Unfortunately she is positive for both FELV, and FIV. She has moderate azotemia and hyperphosphatemia and a nonregenerative anemia. HCT is 18%. Surprisingly she is still eating well although losing weight and PU/PD. She is on interferon alpha from a previous vet. Her tongue was pale pink, but moist and normal size. Pulses were weak and easily compressible. The owner is very interested in herbal therapy. I think I am seeing kidney yin deficiency, blood deficiency. Would Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan be a good option in this kitty or is something else better for immune support.

Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Colleen

Hi Colleen,

I like your thought process here, but in the absence of over heat signs and inflammation, I would use Rehmannia Eight (Ba Wei Di Huang Wan). For patients that are either neutral or chilly, it's the best place to start.

Good luck and let us know how it goes,

Steve
