Question Details
GIT Tumour
by mikemesley - February 10, 2010
Old dog, had GIT muscle-based tumour (in leiomyosarcoma family) removed from intestines with good margins about 6 months ago.
Went well through Sx and has been very well since. Coat went off a bit and Owner - one of the nurses here - asked about herbs. At that time had KID and some Blood deficiency signs, with an inkling, although not well developed, signs of empty heat.
Had on LWDHW and I was happy with what I was seeing over the past 2 months.
On exam today tongue has turned from good (before LWDHW it was mildly red, dry, after Tx was good) to one of those gross dark purple/red tongues. Small and a bit dry also. Pulse is deep, wiry. Still seems BL23 and other KID points most active.
So I feel like the stasis is Blood stasis, not TB stasis, and presume the same underlying issue of KId/LIV yin def is present.
Anything to move blood better and cool things down more (presume by Yin tonification) that seems appropriate.
I was wondering about ZBDHW - but shouldn't really move more, just cool more?

thanks
Mike

Other thoughts were YGJ, but felt not Blood moving enough, or try adding GXZYT to current Tx (LWDHW)

Thanks again!

Hi Mike,

If the pulse is quite forceful, and the tongue purple red, then Ge Xia Zhu Yu Tang is very appropriate. You may want to back off on the tonics for a while.

If the pulse was weak and taut, and the tongue purplish, then Rehmannia Eight is appropriate.

So it all depends on the intensity of the findings. Generally we never like to find a forceful pulse in a cat and it always indicates an excess.
